Meet Our Team

William N. Kring Esq, CPA

Attorney Kring is the founder of Kring & Associates and has more than thirty-five years of experience advising individuals, businesses, and business owners on complex legal and tax matters. His practice includes tax law, multistate and international taxation, business law, bankruptcy, and domestic relations.


He has extensive experience representing clients in civil and criminal tax matters, including IRS audits, administrative appeals, collection matters, tax litigation, and disputes with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. His practice also includes advising clients on complex federal, state, multistate, and international tax issues.


Attorney Kring also counsels closely held businesses and their owners on entity structuring, contracts and commercial transactions, acquisitions and dispositions, business disputes, and financial restructurings. His broad legal and tax background allows him to approach matters with an understanding of their financial and business consequences.


Attorney Kring is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Tax Court.

Karen Chan Kring, CPA, CVA, MSA

Karen Chan Kring is the Managing Principal of Kring & Associates, where she oversees the firm’s tax and accounting practice and advises high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, trusts, partnerships, and corporate entities. She has more than a decade of public accounting experience, including serving as a Principal at a large Greater Boston accounting firm and previously as a Tax Manager with a large regional New England firm.


Karen specializes in closely held businesses and their owners, trusts and estates, partnership and S corporation taxation, and complex tax and basis matters. Her work includes ownership structures, tax basis and capital accounts, transactions, distributions, succession and gifting strategies, and sophisticated federal and state tax planning. A Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Karen also has significant experience valuing closely held businesses and ownership interests for estate, gift, succession-planning, and other tax purposes. She has served on firm tax committees and led professional training on emerging and complex tax issues.


As Managing Principal, Karen oversees the firm’s professional standards and quality-control processes. Kring & Associates prepares financial statements in connection with its tax practice based on client books and records and the related tax returns, providing those financial statements together with the completed tax filings. The firm participates in the profession’s peer review process, with its financial statement preparation and related accounting practices subject to independent review for compliance with applicable professional standards. Karen earned her B.S. and M.S. in Accountancy from Bentley University, graduating magna cum laude.

Daniel Jastrzebski

Dan Jastrzebski is a Tax Principal with more than a decade of experience advising high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, and their owners on complex federal and state tax matters. Before joining Kring & Associates, Dan worked at large regional accounting firms throughout New England, focusing on tax compliance, planning, and accounting for individuals and privately held businesses.

Dan also brings private-sector experience from an accounting role with a private equity firm, providing him with a practical understanding of the intersection of taxation, financial reporting, investments, and business operations.


His practice focuses on individual and business taxation, including tax planning and projections, partnership and S corporation taxation, multi-entity structures, basis and capital account analysis, transactional tax matters, and complex federal and state returns. Dan excels at analyzing complex financial information and developing practical, tax-efficient strategies for clients.


Dan earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has passed all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination and is completing the remaining requirements for CPA licensure.

Mark Y. Grubert, CPA

Mark joined Kring and Associates with the merger of Michael & Grubert, where he was a founding partner. Mark has over forty years of experience providing consulting, accounting services, business tax planning and reporting to family-owned businesses, individuals, trusts & estates. He takes pride in supporting his clients through every phase of the business lifecycle—whether they are just starting out, navigating growth, or preparing for a sale or succession. He is a member of the AICPAs and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs.

William M. Nickles, CFP

Bill retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2008 where he most recently served as the Manager Budget and Controller in the New Hampshire and Boston Districts. Bill has been a Certified Financial Planner since 1998 and has been serving as a fee-based financial planner since 2001. His focus as a financial planner is on tying Insurance, Investments, Taxation, Retirement planning and Estate Planning into a comprehensive plan. He works primarily with former Federal employees across the United States. He is also the State Treasurer for NARFE (National and Retired Federal Employees and a member of the board of directors for Massachusetts Retirees United.

Pat Nickles, CEBS

Pat is a Human Resources professional with 30+ years of corporate experience across a varied spectrum of industries. She has a specialty expertise in Employee Benefits management, design, implementation, audits and administration. She holds the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation highly recognized in the HR field.  Her professional experiences also include HR management, business operations, HRIS and small business management.
